Half of what ECO Contractors & Sons does never gets photographed, because it is buried by the time the building goes up. We work for main contractors, developers and commercial clients on the first and least forgiving phase of a project — clearance, drainage, excavation, concrete and structural support — and we are used to working to somebody else's programme rather than our own.
Scope of works
What we take on for main contractors.

Site clearance & preparation
Stripping and clearing a plot to formation level, removing redundant structures, vegetation and made ground, and setting out the levels the next phase needs. The phase that sets the programme for everything after it.

Demolition
Taking down outbuildings, redundant structures and obsolete hardstanding, with the arisings sorted and carted away rather than pushed into a corner of the site for somebody else to deal with.

Groundworks, site drainage & soakaways
Surface-water and foul drainage runs, soakaways built where ground conditions genuinely suit them, channel and linear drainage, and inspection chambers and covers set to finished levels.

Excavations for foundations
Trench and pad excavations dug to the depths and dimensions the design calls for, trimmed and cleaned out ready for inspection and pour, with spoil managed and removed as we go.

Block and beam floor installations
Beam and block ground floors set out, laid and levelled over prepared and ventilated sub-floor voids, ready for grouting and the following trades.

Reinforced concrete builds
Formwork, reinforcement and pouring for reinforced concrete elements — bases, slabs, retaining structures and foundations — placed, compacted and finished to the specification.

Structural support
Temporary and permanent structural support work, including the propping, padstones and bearings that go in when openings are formed or loads are transferred.

Blockwork & brickwork
Substructure and superstructure blockwork and brickwork, including cavity work, retaining walls and the brick and block elements of extensions and outbuildings.
Working to your programme
Small firm, straight answers, no layers.
We are a family firm, so the person you agree the programme with is the person on the site. There is no contracts department to route a query through and no site manager who has to ring head office before giving you an answer about a depth or a date.
We are used to being the first trade on and the one everybody else is waiting for, which means we would rather flag a problem with formation level or a service run on the day we hit it than quietly build over it. If ground conditions are going to move your programme, you will hear it from us early.
